“You know high risk is high reward, and sometimes it pays to be bad. One day, I plan to pave my way to wealth!”

Sometimes it pays to be bad. This activity gives a character the chance to make some extra cash, at the risk of arrest. A character must spend 25 gp and 5 downtime days to gather information on the potential target before committing the crime.

  • If another player wishes to tag along for the ride or provide advantage to any of the checks, the character with the lowest stealth, must make the stealth roll and spend the same number of downtime days.
  • Features, items and spells are allowed. Spells are permitted as long as it can be maintained for a minimum of 4 hours.
DC Value Acquired
10 50 gp, robbery of a struggling merchant
15 100 gp, robbery of a prosperous merchant
20 200 gp, robbery of a noble
25 1,000 gp, robbery of one of the richest figures in town
  1. To attempt the crime on the left, announce the attempted DC in #downtime-log with all features and spells prefaced BEFORE rolling.
  2. Proceed to roll the following. Rolls must hit or pass the DC in order to be successful. Proceed to Check Success for the outcome of the rolls.
    • Stealth check.
    • Dexterity using thieves’ tools.
    • Choice of Investigation, Perception or Deception.

Check Success is measured by how successful a character is. Refer to the list below for number of success’ the player makes with the value of loot acquired.

  • 3 -:- The heist is a success, the character nets 100% of the heist.
  • 2 -:-  The heist is a partial success, netting 50% the payout.
  • 1 -:- The heist fails, but the character escapes and a complication is triggered.
  • 0 -:- Character is caught and must pay a fine equal to the profit the crime would have earned and must spend one week in jail for each 25 gp of the fine.

Complications will arise when situations go south due to uncalculated mistakes. Unlike other downtime activities, a complication is typically triggered on the success of 1 check.

  • In the rare event, a character’s rival is involved in crime or law enforcement, the complication triggers on 2 success checks (rivals may be acquired from other downtime activities.)

*Involves a rival. Rivals give -1 to all checks involving the next downtime activity performed by that character.
